When coupled with a National Weather Service class A pan, the Sutron Evaporation Gauge is used to determine evaporation rates by measuring changing water levels in the accompanying evaporation pan. The instrument consists of a float, chain, and counterweight attached to a precision 1000-ohm potentiometer mounted through a sprocket assembly in a weatherproof housing. An Evaporation Gauge is simple to install and level as its triangular base plate is equipped with three leveling screws and a bubble level indicator, which provides a stable base for measurement. Additionally, the gauge's potentiometer produces a resistance output proportional to the position of the float, safeguarding the accuracy of readings.
